Pastor of House of Bethel Ministry has been arrested for noise pollution
- The arrest was warranted by the Ashanti regional minister
The head pastor of the House of Bethel Ministry, Reverend Kwame Takyi was arrested on Saturday for making "too much noise".
The arrest was ordered by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah who is reported to have confronted the pastor as the watch night service was ongoing.
Simon Osei Mensah had instructed on the police at KNUST to not only affect the arrest but also ensure that the watch night service was brought to an end.
This was after he had stormed the premises around 12:30 am, to warn the congregation for the first time. The angry minister later came in with the police officers at about 2:00 am to order the arrest of the head pastor.
Meanwhile, some disgruntled church members described the move by the minister as "Rambo style".
The minister's move follows existing noise pollution laws which, unfortunately, are not duly enforced. In 2014 fifty people were convicted by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) district court in 2013 for causing noise pollution in the capital.
